 Children’s Choir: Vox angelorum

The first year of Vox angelorum was a great success. The choir performed at approximately 10 liturgies throughout the year, singing music from great composers, such as Mozart, Haydn, Brahms, Rutter, among many other traditional and contemporary hymns of the Catholic church.  The goal of the SJN children's music program is to create a comprehensive music program oriented in the Catholic faith that teaches the choristers how to pray through a wide variety of genres in music.  The program offers the choristers basic music theory skills, vocal pedagogy, solo singing skills, and the vocal techniques to sing Renaissance through contemporary music.

The music program is divided into two semesters that mirrors the academic school year.  Each chorister is required to attend one rehearsal a week. Two rehearsals will be offered each week and each chorister is allowed to attend the rehearsal most convenient for their family.

After one full-year as a member of Vox angelorum each chorister will receive a SJN Chorister Pin that they can proudly wear to show their leadership in the SJN Children’s Music Ministry. The Chorister Pin levels are as follows:

1-2 Years: SJN Chorister (Navy Blue)

3-4 Years: SJN Senior Chorister (Garnet)

Alumni: SJN Alumni Chorister (Crystal)

Collegium Cantorum

A group of men and women (high school and adult) who serve as psalmists/cantors at most Masses.  Anyone who wants to participate in the ministry of leading the assembly in singing, and proclaiming the Word in song, must audition with the Director of Music and participate in Cantor formation.  This group also rehearses together as a Collegium and sing various small ensemble and Renaissance/Baroque works throughout the liturgical year.

The Contemporary Ensemble

A newly-formed Ensemble is set to lead  the singing at the Sunday evening 5 PM.  Mass in a lively contemporary style.  The group is composed of professional musicians and seeks additional vocalists and instrumentalists. Both youth and adults are invited to participate in this music ministry.
